double densed uncounthest hour of allbleakest age with a bad of wind and a barrel of rain is an in-progress piece for resonators and brass. I’m keeping a composition log here as I work on it.

There are sure to be many detours. Getting it in shape might involve:

Saturday August 3rd

In astrid-land, the news is that MIDI output is in better shape again. I’m using the ALSA seq API directly this time around like I did for MIDI input. I’m also trying out a different approach with simple wrappers for note & CC messages and new interfaces for raw MIDI messages as well as some program change wrappers – I’d finally like to use my MU15 with astrid! (It has a weird LSB/MSB bank selection dance for doing voice selection and program changes.)

I don’t plan to use MIDI out for anything yet, really, except I want to have it available so we can use it as a CV/gate bridge between astrid and J’s modular suitcase if that comes up in rehearsal this month.

Got a couple A Name For Tomorrow shows coming up this month! Woodland Pattern in Milwaukee (and streaming online) on the 15th and Communication in Madison on the 16th with our pal Luxate.

Yes indeed, it is August! The August-themed banner image above includes a very small painting that Paul Karner did of us based on a photo from our performance last year at Oakfest. I’m doing a thing with Paul in Chicago this month as well: helping out with the latest iteration of his CHURCH project at the Hideout. It might become a full A Name For Tomorrow family affair, but not totally sure yet.

Here’s a close up of the painting because it’s super cool:
